Council needs to work together
To the editor:
I went to the Jan. 18 Redkey Town Council meeting and was completely taken by surprise as to what went on.
•I was there to ask if the town was going to adjust water bills because residents have let their water drip because of the sub-zero temperatures and was quickly told no.
•I had taken a neighbor with me who was asking for help on a water issue at her home. When it rains or snow melts, the water surrounds her house and she is unable to use her water or flush her toilet for days at a time. She was told they would look into it. This problem has been going on for years.
•There were board members refusing to take departments assigned to them by the board president for the new year.
•Two board members were in a shouting match.
•Two board members took it upon themselves to talk to the town attorney about personnel policies without the other board members’ knowledge.
•They voted on a purchasing a new vehicle, taking the highest bid. Why take three bids if you aren’t going to take the lowest bid?
It’s no wonder nothing ever gets down for the Town of Redkey when the board cannot even work together to better the town and help its residents. We will be voting in November for a couple of seats on the board, so let’s make sure we choose people who want to better Redkey and work together.
