Backing crash
Vehicles driven by two Jay County residents collided Wednesday while backing up at Walmart.
Teresa L. Pinkerston, 39, Redkey, and Ashley E. Reynolds, 33, Portland, were parked beside each other in the parking lot at 950 W. Votaw St., Portland. They both said they did not see the other vehicle until they collided.
Pinkerston was driving a 2009 Honda Accord, registered to Owen E. Champ, Redkey. Reynolds was driving her 2011 Honda Odyssey.
Damage in the 1:31 p.m. accident is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Deer struck
A Winchester man struck a deer with the car he was driving early this morning.
Jack D. Underwood, 25, was driving south on U.S. 27 near its intersection with county road 700 South when a deer ran out into the road. He was unable to avoid striking it with the 2002 General Motors Envoy he was driving. The vehicle is registered to Brittany L. Underwood, Winchester.
Damage in the 1:20 a.m. collision is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Theft
A Portland woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly shoplifting from Walmart.
Jennifer R. Longsworth, 39, 1548 E. Indiana 26, was arrested on the preliminary charge of theft by borrowing, a Class A misdemeanor.
Portland Police Department reported that Longsworth allegedly took $54.26 worth of items from the store at 950 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Longsworth was booked at 3:04 p.m. into Jay County Jail and was later released on a $1,000 bond.
