FORT RECOVERY — Cade Wendel didn’t shoot well from the field for most of the game.
He missed the only three shots he took, but was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
He made his final field goal count.
Wendel hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team to a 54-51 victory over the Coldwater?Cavaliers at Fort Site Fieldhouse.
It was the third straight win for the Indians, their longest of the season, and bumps the Tribe to 10-8 on the year and 2-5 in Midwest Athletic Conference play. Coldwater, meanwhile, dips to 8-10 (3-5 MAC).
The Indians trailed 17-14 after the first quarter, and the margin stayed the same at half. Fort Recovery outpaced Coldwater 19-13 during the third quarter to lead 44-41 heading into the final eight minutes.
Payton Jutte was 8-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-7 from long range, on his way to 22 points.
Ryan Braun was second on the team with 10 points, and Wendel finished with seven. Braun and Wendel each had four rebounds, while the latter also dished five assists.
Fort Recovery returns to action tonight against Springfield Northwestern.
