LEO — Wyatt Geesaman’s career high scoring total was a dozen points.
He obliterated it Saturday.
Geesaman, a Jay County High School junior, scored 18 of his career-high 22 points in the second half, guiding the Patriot boys basketball team to a 55-51 victory over the Leo Lions.
It was the sixth consecutive win for Jay County (13-6), and coach Chris Krieg’s 100th victory (he won 57 games leading the JCHS girls team for five seasons).
Jay County led 14-7 over its former Allen County Athletic Conference rival and pushed the advantage to 24-12 at halftime. Leo began to mount a bit of a comeback, trimming the deficit to 38-29 with eight minutes remaining.
The Lions continued to outscore the Patriots but the first-half hole was insurmountable.
Geesaman was 10-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line en route to his 22 points. Ryan Schlechty was second on the team with 12 points, and his twin brother Michael contributed 10 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
