CANON, Ohio — Their goal was to get there in the first place.

Check.

Then they wanted to get back to the second day.

Check.

Now it’ll be to continue to climb the consolation ladder.

The Fort Recovery High School girls swim team — which is competing at the state level for the first time in program history — had a pair of relays qualify for today's consolation finals in the OHSAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Alexis Bubp, Sophie Timmerman, Paige Fortkamp and Cassy Martin tied for 15th with their preliminary time of 1 minute, 41.92 seconds. They matched the quartet from Dayton Oakwood.

Ava Bubp, Alexis Bubp, Timmerman and Martin then finished 15th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:43.7.

The top eight in each event advance to the championship finals, while places nine through 16 make the consolation finals.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Wauseon is seeded ninth in 1:40.14, and Gates Mills Gilmour Academy (3:39) is ninth in the 400 freestyle relay.

Martin, the only FRHS swimmer to compete as an individual, had a time of 24.89 seconds in the 50 freestyle, a mere 0.38 seconds away from the No. 16 seed.
The Tribe’s 200 medley relay was also 23rd in 1:54.7.
