CANTON — The Indians didn’t just show up to the state finals to have fun.
They made the most of their opportunity.
Fort Recovery High School’s 400-yard freestyle relay team finished in 14th place Friday night in the OHSAA Division II Girls Swimming and Diving Championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Cassy Martin, Ava Bubp, Alexis Bubp and Sophie Timmerman teamed up for the 14th-place finish in the girls 400 freestyle relay. They posted a time of 3 minutes, 44.17 seconds to finish 0.81 seconds behind 13th-place Bishop Hartley.
The Indians entered the meet as the No. 14 seed and finished 15th in Thursday’s preliminaries before climbing back up one spot Friday.
Fort Recovery also competed in tonight’s consolation final in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Martin, Timmerman, Paige Fortkamp and Alexis Bubp finishing 16th in 1:42.6. They were 0.31 seconds behind Oakwood, which finished in 15th.
This season marked the first time the Indians have ever sent a swimmer to the state finals.
In addition to Friday’s results, FRHS got 23rd-place finishes Thursday from the 200 medley relay team and Martin in the 50 freestyle.
