Terry Grimes

Terry Wayne Grimes, age 75, 125 S. Munson Ave., Portland, passed away Thursday at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Portland on Nov. 4, 1942, the son of Sarah “Sally” Hill and Earl “Dude” Grimes Jr. He graduated from Portland High School in 1960 and then served with the U.S. Navy for four years. He worked for Teledyne Portland Forge for 43 years.

He was also involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts in Salamonia and coaching Portland Little League and Pee Wee Football for more than 20 years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 211 and was an avid sports fan following Jay County teams.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years Sybil Dawn Walls Grimes of Portland; one sister, Debi Abbott (husband: Jerry) of Portland; children David Wayne Grimes of Georgia, Steven Michael Grimes (wife: Elaine Conner) of Fort Myers, Florida, Tracy Dawn Braun of Largo, Florida, and Brian Keith Grimes (wife: Melissa Mahon) of Portland; nine grandchildren, Emily Dawn Skirvin (husband: Ryan), Ryan Michael Grimes, Lauren Ann Grimes, Cody Richard Bellis, Corey Alan Bellis, Olivia Jean Braun, Madelyn Paige Braun, Parker Keith Grimes and Landon Brian Grimes; and three great-granddaughters, Stella Dawn Skirvin, Evelyn Faye Skirvin and Hazel Rayne Skirvin. He was an uncle to Shane Babbitt, Andrea Poore, Troy Abbott, Michelle Clayton and Kim Mikalowsky.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Eads presiding. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Memorials can be made to State of the Heart Hospice.
