Alan Robert Shirk, age 82, Bonita Springs, Florida, a former Portland resident, passed away Sunday morning at his home.
He was born in Lafayette, Indiana, Jan. 14, 1935, the son of Sam and Katherine (Funk) Shirk. He was married Nov. 15, 2003, to Sherry Gilliam, who survives.
He was retired from Sprint Telephone as a public relations manager. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Masonic Lodge for 50 years, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Scottish Rite and Portland Country Club.
Surviving are his wife Sherry Gilliam-Shirk, step-son Jeffery Gilliam of Carmel and step-daughter Linda Gilliam of Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his son Bradley Shirk and brother Milton Howard Shirk.
There are no funeral services. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and can be sent to the funeral home.
