HARTFORD CITY — Helen Anna Louise Bailey, 96, passed away at 1:12 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home. She had lived in Portland her whole life until 2015 when she moved to Hartford City with her daughter.
She was born in Portland on Oct. 8, 1921, to Charles Lanning and Pearl C. (Boozier) Lanning. Both parents preceded her in death.
Helen married Orville Raymond Bailey on Dec. 23, 1939, in Portland. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1984.
She retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Union City in 1982 after 28 years of service. She was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Portland,50 year member of Pennville Rebecca Lodge, Portland American Legion Auxiliary and a 70 year member of Gas City Moose Lodge. She received College of Regency Degree and Academy of Friendship. She was an avid reader, loved going to church, working crossword puzzles and listening to gospel music.
Helen will be sadly missed by her daughter, Sharon Louise Crawford of Hartford City; grandchildren Michael W. Kreischer, Kathy L. (husband: Vincent) Brown, Charlene B. (husband: Gene) Henderson, Raymond T. Kreischer and Ronald E. Kreischer; great-grandchildren Brad Kreischer, Kelly Opydcke, Craig (wife: Ayane) Opydcke, Tyler Schache, Candace Kreischer, Kendra Kreischer, Nolan Kreischer, Kirstin Kreischer, Courtney Kreischer and Traison Teer; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; and a nephew she raised, Charles Renner.
She was also preceded in death by great-grandchildren Amanda Schache and Jeremy Darnell and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City, with the Rev. Flint Redwine officiating.
Burial will follow at Liber Cemetery in Portland.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Keplinger Funeral Home.
