Jared Guntle, age 36, a resident of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Jay County Hospital following a sudden illness.
Jared was born on Aug. 14, 1981, in Bluffton, the son of Sandra Guntle. He graduated from Jay County High School in 1999 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 2004. He worked for the Jay School Corporation in the JAG program preparing students for the workplace and college. He currently was working for ASG in Muncie. He helped coach pee-wee football and junior league baseball. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Portland where he served as a trustee. He married Kari Griffith on Nov. 21, 2009.

His mother — Sandra Atienzo, Portland, Indiana
One son — Sean Guntle, Portland, Indiana
One brother — Joseph Atienzo, Portland, Indiana
One sister — Hanna Atienzo, Portland, Indiana
Two half-brothers — Derek Lane, Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Brandon Lane, Rock Hill, South Carolina
Half-sister — Amy Lane, Oceanside, California
Grandparents — Earl Robert and Janet Guntle, Portland, Indiana
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Pastor Earl Doll will officiate the service.
Memorials may be directed towards the family to establish a scholarship fund for his son. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
