Another ended.

The Jay County High School girls swim team kept its winning streak alive while at the same time ending a losing skid as it defeated the Yorktown Tigers 161-151.

The Patriots, who are 11-0 on the season, had lost five consecutive dual meets to the Tigers.

Yorktown’s boys defeated Jay County, 182-123.

Ashlyn Dow and Alex Bader each had two individual wins and helped a pair of winning relays for the JCHS girls. Dow won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.99 seconds, and was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 12.78 seconds. Bader had victories in the 200 freestyle (2:00.45) and 100 butterfly (1:02.97).

They joined Eliza Bader — she won the 100 freestyle in 56.63 seconds — and Vivienne Kunkler to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.81, and Elizabeth McDowell, Dow and the Baders had a time of 3:55.96 to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Tayler Smeltzer had the only win for the Patriot boys, who fell to 2-8 on the year. He had a time of 25.67 seconds to win the 50 freestyle.



SA sweeps Bellmont

BERNE — The South Adams boys and girls swim teams both defeated Bellmont on Tuesday.

The SAHS girls had a 98-81 victory while the boys edged the Braves 93-90.

Olivia Von Gunten and Ashley LeFever won two events apiece. Von Gunten beat the field in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle, while LeFever touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Julia Grabau (diving), Amara Mikesell (100 backstroke) and Bailey (100 breaststroke) were also first in their respective events.

Zach Colpaert was the lone dual winner for the SAHS boys, as he sprinted to win the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Tyler Yoder (diving), Kam Yoder (200 IM), Brayden Collingsworth (500 freestyle) and Trey Lehman (100 backstroke) each had victories as well.

The boys and girls teams both won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.



Eagle 7th wins

PARKER CITY — The West Jay Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team picked up a 25-6 victory Tuesday over the host Monroe Central Golden Bears.

The eighth grade Eagles lost 40-28.

Abbie Fields led the seventh grade squad with 11 points, and Grace Shimp followed with eight points. Raven Dale, Gabi Bilbrey and Paige Mumbower had two points each.

Isabel Rogers scored 19 points in the lost for the WJMS eighth grade team. which also got four points from Shimp and two each from Lizzie Dollar and Bilbrey. Kaelyn Denney chipped in with one free throw.



Chiefs lose to Titans

MUNCIE — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both lost to the Muncie Northside Titans on Tuesday.

The seventh graders fell 41-38, while the eighth grade squad dropped a 60-41 game.

Bennett Weitzel scored 15 points to lead the seventh graders, who dipped to 7-3 on the year. Blake Bogenschutz was second on the team with nine points, and Carter Link added eight points. Josh Dowlen, Dusty Pearson and Pete Muhlenkamp each had two points.

Ethan Dirksen and Gavin Muhlenkamp scored 18 and 12 points respectively for the Chief eighth graders (8-2). Gavin Myers contributed four points as Kyle Sanders and Adam Muhlenkamp both had two points.



Nichols leads Eagles

DUNKIRK — Parker Nichols led the team in scoring on Tuesday as the West Jay sixth grade boys basketball team opened its season with a 38-34 win over the Muncie Southside Panthers.

Nichols had 20 points in the win, and Liam Garringer was second on the team with nine points.

Trevin Dunnington chipped in four points, Jackson Edwards tallied three points and Ryan Cross added two points for the Eagles.



Stars drop two

DECATUR — The South Adams seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both lost to St. Joseph’s on Tuesday.

The eighth graders fell to 74 wth a 45-40 loss, while the seventh graders dipped to 5-6 after a 34-29 defeat.

Trey Schoch poured in 22 points to lead the SAMS eighth graders, who also got 10 points from Aidan Wanner and four points from Colin Subler.

Jordan Hinshaw and Kaleb Stevens both had two points.

Matt Steiner paced the seventh graders with eight points, and Josh Amstutz was second with seven points.
