John Hare

John Richard Hare, 86, Dunkirk, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 at home.
Born in Dunkirk on Sept. 21, 1931, he was the son of Harry Carl Hare and Josephine Elizabeth (Goodman)Hare . John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 227, Dunkirk, where he was past commander, past 5th District commander, and past northern vice commander. He also belonged to 40&8, VFW and Dunkirk Moose Lodge. John was married to Alice Marie (Finch) Hare until her death in 1982. John retired from Ball Foster (now Ardagh), Dunkirk, after working there many years.
Survivors include his daughters, Yolanda Hare and Jill Goetz, both of Dunkirk; three grandchildren, Zackary Hare, Caleb Hare (companion: Jennifer) and Luke Goetz (companion: Courtney); four great-grandchildren, Destiny, Gavin, Corbin and Paisleigh; and his companion, Janet Botts, Dunkirk.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; two sons, John Richard Hare II and Jeffrey Craig Hare; and three brothers, Donald Hare, Terry Hare and Harry “Porky” Hare.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Center Cemetery, west of Portland.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
