Norman Miller

Norman R. Miller, age 85, a rural Portland resident, passed away Friday evening at Swiss Village in Berne.
He was born in Portland on June 13, 1932, the son of True and Dorothy (Macy) Miller. He was married Aug. 13, 1967, to Alice Byrd, who survives.
He was a retired farmer. He served with the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a 1950 Bryant High School graduate and a member of Westchester United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He served as a Jay County Commissioner, and was a former Optimist club member. He was a 4-H tractor safety instructor and member of Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
Surviving are his wife Alice; three sons, Barry Miller of Portland, Greg Miller (wife: Shirley) of Portland and Todd Miller (wife: Lori) of Portland; brother Eldon Miller of Portland; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Miller (wife: Courtney) of Dallas, Texas, Nathan Miller (wife: LeeAnn) of Portland, Jonathan Miller of Portland, Angela Miller (companion: Matt Simko) of Chicago, Chad Miller (wife: Kristin) of Berne, Joe Miller (wife: Jackie) of Portland, Mike Miller (wife: Sarah) of Portland, Andrew Miller of Portland, Sam Miller of Lafayette, Alysha Richardson (husband: Xavier) of Fishers and Eme Miller (companion: Alan Leonhard) of Portland; six great-grandchildren, Asa and Quinn Miller of Dallas, Gabie, Lizzie and Alexander Miller of Portland, and Jamison Miller of Portland.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Miller, and a sister, Bonnie Miller.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Westchester United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrell Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 211.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Westchester church.
Memorials can be made to the Westchester United Methodist Church.
