Mabel Beard

Mabel Irene Mills Wilson Beard, age 97, of Portland, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky.
She was born in Jay County May 14, 1920. Mrs. Beard is the daughter of Jesse Clyde and Nellie Alegra (Lea) Mills Sr. She was married Oct. 15, 1938, to Arthur E. Wilson and he died July 28, 1982. She later married Gerald Beard in 1992 and he passed away in 2015.
She had worked at Jay County REMC and First National Bank. She was the only charter member left in the First Baptist Church that was organized in 1955. She was a member of the Past Matrons Club, Jay County Historical Society and member of the REMC bowling team from 1965 until 2006.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur A. Wilson (wife: Lavonne) of Independence, Kentucky, and Gerald W. Wilson (wife: Dee) of Ramsure, North Carolina; one step-son, Robert L. Beard (wife: Norma) of North Royalton, Ohio; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Opal Timmons, Mary Ann Caster and Helen Morningstar; three brothers, Jesse Mills Jr., Dick Mills and Philip Mills; and one grandson, Joel David Wilson.
Funeral services will be Friday Jan. 26, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Dr. Ron Ross presiding. Burial will follow in the Claycomb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Mrs. Beard's wishes were that memorials can be made to the Make A Wish Foundation in memory of her grandson Joel David Wilson.
