Bernie Schlosser, 84, Albany, died Sunday Jan. 21, 2018, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Portland on Oct. 7, 1933, he grew up in Portland, graduated from Portland High School in 1951 and later moved to Albany where he resided most of his life. He worked in the tool and die trade for several years at places including Precision Mold, Muncie, Interstate Machine, Albany, and Corfine Tool, Yorktown. In earlier years, Bernie worked at the Pontiac garage in Portland after serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era and at Delco for a brief time. He received training to operate heavy equipment and worked on the Foss Dam in Oklahoma for two years before returning to Albany.
He enjoyed boating and was a member of American Legion Post 167, Albany, and the National Rifle Association. He was a former member and chief of the Albany Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include two daughters, Marla Shaw (husband: Phil), Muncie, and Marcie Schlosser, Albany; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Borton (husband: Cole), Phillip Shaw, Christopher Shaw (partner: Dan O’Brien), Patrick Shaw, and Timothy Shaw (fiancé: Danielle Knox); five great-grandchildren, Justin Berg, Hunter Shaw, Drew Shaw, Ashley Shaw and Claire Borton.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Schlosser; his parents, Ernest L. and Edith I. (Swygart) Schlosser; and a brother, Don Schlosser.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
