Clyde Milton Barger, 78, of Berne, Indiana, passed away at 4:17 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on Saturday, Oct. 14, 1939, in Portland, Indiana. Clyde was a 1957 graduate of Portland High School. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1964 to 1965. Shortly after coming home he married Karen Locker on Friday, Jan. 14, 1966, in the Salamonia Church of Christ; they just shared their 52nd wedding anniversary together.
Clyde worked in the grocery business all his life. He started at just 16 years old at the Kroger in Portland. Eventually he moved up to manager, leading several stores in Portland, Decatur, Muncie, Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Berne. He retired in 2005 from Berne Community Market.
He attended the Bethel Brethren Church in Berne for several years. Clyde enjoyed golfing, watching the Cleveland Indians baseball team and being with his dog Eddie. But most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Loving survivors include: his wife Karen (Locker) Barger, Berne, Indiana; daughters Andrea (Todd) Baumer, Decatur, Indiana, Rhonda (Kris) Grandlinard, Berne, Indiana, Monica (Jerry) Smith, Berne, Indiana, and Deanna (David) Milligan, Akron, Ohio; grandchildren Ashley Bosler, Austin Baumer, William Grandlinard, Jessica Grandlinard, Becca Sharp, Brayden Grandlinard, Elizabeth Booth, Jacob Smith, Logan Milligan, Katelyn Milligan, Ian Milligan, Megan Milligan and Jordan Milligan; great-grandchildren Elias Booth, Eden Sharp and Finnick Grandlinard; brothers Dick (Donna) Barger, Hartford City, Indiana, Dale (Nancy) Barger, Portland, Indiana, and Ray (Bonnie) Barger, Bluffton, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Milton "Jack" and Leona (Molzen) Barger, and his dog and best bud Eddie.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home 100 N. Washington St., Geneva, on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, from 2 to 8 p.m. and from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018.
A service to celebrate Clyde’s life will be at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, with the Rev. Wilbur Taylor, the Rev. Henry Schaadt and the Rev. Joe Nass officiating. Interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in rural Bryant.
