CHURUBUSCO — In the last regular season road game of her career, Lexi Dellinger went out with a bang.

Dellinger, a South Adams High School senior, had a season-high 29 points on Wednesday in leading the Starfire girls basketball team to a 66-23 drubbing of the Churubusco Eagles.

South Adams (14-8), which hosts Richmond at 6 p.m. tonight, jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter and never wavered. The Starfires scored 17 points in each of the final three quarters, which included a 32-14 lead at halftime and a 49-19 advantage heading to the fourth.

Dellinger, who earlier in the year became the program’s all-time leading scorer, made five 3-pointers and all four of her free throws as she had her best scoring output of the season. Emilee Myers was second on the team with eight points, and Sydney Pierce chipped in seven points as nine Starfires had at least two points.

South Adams’ junior varsity team lost, 38-37. Madi Smith led the way with a dozen points as Lydia Loshe and Myers had nine points each.

Starfires advance

MONROE — The South Adams eighth grade boys basketball team advanced to the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament championship with a 45-30 win Wednesday against the host Adams Central Jets.

The Starfires’ championship game will be approximately 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Southern Wells against the winner between tonight’s game between West Jay and host East Jay that was rescheduled from Wednesday.

South Adams (11-7) didn’t allow a point in the first quarter in taking a 12-0 lead that was just 24-15 at half. A solid third quarter put the Stars ahead 36-21 going to the fourth.

Aidan Wanner had 13 points to lead the Starfires, who got nine points apiece from Trey Schoch and Leo Palomo. Kaleb Stevens contributed eight points.

Correction

The Wednesday issue of The Commercial Review incorrectly reported the date of the Jay County High School girls basketball sectional game.
