Cassy Martin and Alexis Bubp combined to break three records.

It helped the Indians win the Coldwater Cavalier Invite for the first time in school history.

The Fort Recovery High School girls swim team had victories in eight of the 11 events Saturday as it finished first in the Cavalier Invite at Jay County High School.

The Tribe totaled 139 points, ahead of New Bremen (112) and Minster (107).

In the boys competition, Versailles won with 151 points, New Bremen was second with 89 and Marion Local totaled 61 points for third. Fort Recovery had two points for sixth.

Martin broke her own records in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke races. In the former, she had a time of 25 seconds to pass her old mark by 0.15 seconds. Her 100 back time of 1 minute, 2.97 seconds, beat her old time of 1:04.27.

Bubp won the 200 individual medley in 2:21.26, shaving 0.95 seconds off her record.

Sophie Timmerman also had a pair of victories, finishing first in the 100 freestyle (58.02 second) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.92).

Paige Fortkamp, Ava Bubp, Alexis Bubp and Timmerman teamed to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.98, while Martin, Fortkamp and the Bubps combined for a victory in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:51.83.

For the boys, Nolan Thobe was seventh in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 freestyle. Josh Gonzalez was ninth in the 50 freestyle.



Tribe loses two

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery boys basketball team lost a pair of games over the weekend at Fort Site Fieldhouse.

On Friday, the Indians lost a slugfest with Marion Local, 39-38. Saturday the Indians didn’t score for the final four minutes as their upset bid fell short in a 57-45 loss to Division IV No. 1 Fort Loramie.

Fort Recovery (7-8) fell behind Fort Loramie 15-9 after the first quarter and 27-19 at half. They came back to lead 45-43 but didn’t score again.

Payton Jutte led the Indians with 16 points, and Grant Knapke had 12 points Ryan Braun was third on the team with 10 points.

Tyler Siegel led the Redskins with 16 points.

Against Marion Local, Jutte led the squad with 10 points.




SA loses third straight

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams boys basketball team lost for the third time in as many games Saturday with a 55-32 defeat to sectional rival Fort Wayne Canterbury.

The Starfires (4-10), who have lost three consecutive games for the third time this season, fell behind 18-2 after the first quarter and 34-8 at halftime. Canterbury (4-10) outscored South Adams 15-7 in the third for a 49-15 advantage. The Starfires put had their best scoring output with a 17-point effort in the fourth quarter but the deficit was too much to overcome.

James Arnold had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead South Adams. Kody Fike was second on the team with nine points to go with is five rebounds, and Lars In’t Groen contributed four points and six rebounds.



East Jay boys are champs

PONETO — East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both claimed the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament championships on Saturday at Southern Wells.

The eighth grade Chiefs (14-3) got a 41-31 win over South Adams (11-8), while the seventh graders topped Woodlan 48-22.

Gavin Muhlenkamp scored 19 points and Ethan Dirksen had 15 points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs. Gavin Myers and Adrek Pogue had five and three points respectively.

Aidan Wanner paced South Adams with 12 points and Trey Schoch contributed 11 points. Kaleb Stevens had six points.

Bennett Weitzel had a stellar outing by scoring 28 points in the seventh grade contest. Josh Dowlen and Carter Link finished with seven points, as Blake Bogenschutz, Dawson Hundley and Pete Muhlenkamp had two points each.



Chiefs, Stars split titles

PONETO — The seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams at East Jay and South Adams met for the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament championships Saturday at Southern Wells.

South Adams won the eighth grade title by a 38-20 final, while East Jay’s seventh graders had a 29-17 victory to win the championship.

Renna Schwieterman led the EJMS seventh graders with 13 points. Olivia Waters was second with six points as Lydia Keihn contributed four points. Kylee Cross, Laci McGinnis and Eden Abshire scored two points apiece.

Madison Dirksen finished with 10 points for the Chief eighth graders, who also got four points from Rachel Muhlenkamp, three from Andrea Jutte and two from Jayden Claytor.
