Honors recital to be held at Arts Place
Taking Note
The 2018 MusicWorks Honors Recital will be held in February at Arts Place Portland Center, 131 E. Walnut St.
The recital is open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Hall-Moser Theater.
Performing will be Shea Bailey - flute; Kenny Carducci - alto saxophone; Joey Bailey - alto saxaphone; Ian Ruiz - snare drum; Sawa Yamaguchi - piano; Natsu Yamaguchi - piano; and Tyler Moore - tenor saxophone.
Spelling winner
Olivia Rhoades was recently named the 2018 Adams County Scripps Spelling Bee champion. Rhoades is a seventh grade student at South Adams Middle School and the daughter of Bob and Cindy Rhoades.
She won by spelling the word “karma” correctly.
The runner-up was Madison Bollenbacher, a fifth-grader at Adams Central Middle School. Her parents are Chad and Mandy Bollenbacher.
Rhoades will compete in the regional competition to be held at Purdue University in Fort Wayne.
Dean’s list
Amelia Freeman, Portland, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Anderson University. She is a junior majoring in music education.
Grant Hull, Fort Recovery, was named to the fall dean’s list at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He is a junior majoring in nursing.
Morgan Lennartz, Fort Recovery, was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Indiana University.
Two area students were named to the first semester 2017-18 dean’s list at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Zane Shreve of Redkey, and Melissa Knapke, Fort Recovery.
Nina Wendel, Fort Recovery, was named to the fall dean’s list at the University of Dayton.
Volunteers needed
