NEW CASTLE — The Patriots had won back-to-back games.

The Trojans prevented any hopes for a winning streak.

Jay County High School’s boys basketball C team lost to the host New Castle Trojans on Monday, 38-25.

The Patriots (4-8) were behind 15-8 after the first quarter and were held without a point in the second. The Trojans, meanwhile, ballooned their advantage to 26-8 at half. Jay County trailed 32-16 heading to the fourth quarter.

Sheldon Upp scored 16 points, half of which in the third quarter, to lead the Patriots. Gavin Lambert was second on the team with five points, and Brinnin Wasson completed the scoring with four points.



Chiefs, Driver split

East Jay Middle School’s sixth grade girls basketball teams split with Winchester Driver on Monday.

The A squad won 32-6, while the B team fell 7-6.

Molly Muhlenkamp scored eight points to lead the A team, which also got six points from Sophie Saxman and four each from Breanna Dirksen and Bralee VanSkyock.

Maggie Dillon, Brenna Haines, Bella Denton, Hannah Laux and McKayla Brainerd had two points apiece.

Joske Herndon, VanSkyock and Brainerd scored two points each for the B team.

Eagles, Chiefs split


West Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball teams visited East Jay on Monday and split with the host Chiefs.

In the A game, West Jay won 37-29. East Jay nabbed the B contest 27-14.

Parker Nichols scored 16 points to lead the WJMS A team. Jackson Edwards contributed eight points, Liam Garringer tallied seven points and Ryan Cross had four points.

Peyton Lykins and Jason Ayala led the WJMS B team with five and four points, respectively. Tommy Adkins added three points, and Caleb Dollar finished with two points.

East Jay stats were not provided.



West Jay falls

MODOC — West Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball teams came out on the losing end against the Union Rockets on Monday.

The A team fell 24-5, while the B squad lost 9-7.

Laila Waddell and Ava Miller had two points each for the A team, while Maddie Hall scored one point.

In the B game, Rileigh Sowards led the Eagles with three points. Makinsey Murphy and Waddell both scored two points.
