Arts Place, Inc. recently hired Laura Pieper as director of administration and student records, replacing Julie Swoveland.
Her new position will include bookkeeping, budget control, contract compliance, box office management, registrar for student instruction programs and steward of the Portland facility and grounds.
Pieper was previously the director of business operations at Bell Fish Company, LLC in Albany. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a specialty in finance from Ball State University and is involved in Jay County Chamber of Commerce and Jay County Band Boosters.
Limberlost program
Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva will have a special program on Wednesday.
A Birds of Prey program will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. on the Limberlost Cabin grounds.
Visitors will get to see a bald eagle, a hawk and an owl, provided by Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab in Fort Wayne.
Library news
Pre-school programs are held at 10 a.m. each Friday at Jay County Public Library with themed activities.
This week’s theme will be birthdays, the theme on July 13 will be Safari and Teddy Bears will be the theme on July 20.
JCPL and Future Farmers of America are teaming up at the Jay County Fair.
Families can meet at 10 a.m. on July 9 in the Farmer’s Building to listen to Linda Shreve read farm stories and sing animals songs with FFA members and their young animals.
Canning workshop
Minnetrista in Muncie will have a canning workshop to make sweet tea peaches with a water bath canning recipe.
The workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, and the cost is $20.

Dean’s list
Nina Wendel, Fort Recovery, was named to the spring dean’s list at the University of Dayton, Ohio.
Graduates
Lane Hull, Fort Recovery, graduated from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, with a bachelor of business administration in management.
