FORT WAYNE — Before meeting the Hot Rods, the TinCaps themselves were on a tear.
They had won four in a row and 11 of the last 13.
The Midwest League’s best team put an end to the streak, and sent the TinCaps into a bit of a spiral.
Jack Suwinski launched his fifth homer of the season but his effort wasn’t enough as the Fort Wayne TinCaps dropped a 4-3 game to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Sunday at Parkview Field.
Bowling Green (Tampa Bay Rays) will go for the four-game sweep as the TinCaps’ six-game homestand concludes at 7:05 p.m. tonight.
The Hot Rods (13-6, 59-28), the MWL East Division first-half champions, jumped on the TinCaps (11-7, 43-44) with one run in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch, and Eleardo Cabrera hit a two-run double in the second to stake the Hot Rods to a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Suwinski homered to right field to begin the Fort Wayne rally, and Jeisson Rosario tripled in Robby Podorsky to trim the score to 3-2.
The TinCaps tied the game in the fifth inning on a Podorsky single.
Ronaldo Hernandez, the 2018 MWL Home Run Derby champion, launched a solo shot in the top of the ninth inning for the decisive run.
Nick Feight and Podorsky each had a pair of hits for the TinCaps.
