Children are invited to bring their teddy bears to Jay County Public Library for a sleepover.

Bears or other stuffed animals can be dropped off between 4 and 8 p.m. on July 18. 

Make a name tag bracelet, read a story and tuck them in and come back on July 19 to watch a slide show of what your animal did overnight in the library.

The Winnie the Pooh movie will be shown at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. 

JJ and Silly Safari will have live animals at 10 a.m. on July 16 with reptiles, mammals, birds and bugs.

Also on July 16, JayCPL Book Club will discuss “Girl Waits with Gun” by Amy Stewart at 7 p.m. 

“No One is Coming to Save Us” by Stephanie Watts will be discussed on Aug. 20.  

A donation was given to the library for the Kindergarten Prep School (KiPS) from an anonymous donor and Jay County REMC. 



Express enrollments

Ivy Tech Community College will offer two express enrollments.

They will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 19. 

Staff will assist in applying for admission, new student orientation, learning about ACCUPLACER, financial aid opportunities and meeting with an academic advisor to register for classes.

If possible, bring a copy of SAT, PSAT, and ACT scores,   high school transcripts and previous college credit.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive due to an emergency blood shortage after the Fourth of July weekend. 

It will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 20 at IU Health Jay, 500 W. Votaw St. in Portland.

  

Fishing derby

Portland Evening Optimist Club will host a fishing derby on July 21 at Hudson Family Park in Portland. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. For more information, call Nick Miller at (937) 239-0022.



Blackford events

The annual Blackford County Arts Center SummerFest Juried Art Show will be held July 23 through September 13 in Hartford City.

Indiana artists may submit works in any 2 dimensional medium, including photography, which must be original and completed within the past five years. Entry forms are available for Indiana artists at the Blackford County Arts Center at  107 W. Washington St., on the center’s Facebook page or at Artsland.org. 

An exhibit reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 27 and awards will be presented. For more information, call Amy Day at (765) 348-4154.

Elijah Kahlig, Fort Recovery, graduated cum laude from the University of Findley (Ohio) with a degree in accounting.
