Georgia Steed

Georgia A. Steed, age 82, a former Jay County resident, passed away Saturday morning at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She was born in Portland May 8, 1936, the daughter of Wilson and Elsie (Scholer) Evans. She retired in 1998 from St. Gobain Containers in Dunkirk after 35 years. She was a member of GBBA Local 96 and attended Gray High School.
She was most happy when she was cooking in her kitchen. She loved spending time with her family, gardening and playing cards.
Surviving are one son, Jeffrey Steed (wife: Sandy) of Portland; two daughters, Kathy Crouch (husband: John) of Dunkirk and Peggy Montarsi of Moorestown, Indiana; two brothers, Gary L. Evans (wife: Eileen) of Saratoga and Earl W. Evans (wife: Tambra) of Daleville; three sisters, Rose M. Ullom (husband: Fred) of Chesterfield, Faye I. Williamson (husband: Darrel) of Portland and Kay E. Beck (husband: Roger) of Ft. Myers, Florida; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen, and brother, Harold Evans.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
