The Jay County High School graduating class of 1978 will be celebrating their 40th reunion this weekend with several activities.
Alumni are invited to meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Greek’s Pizzeria in Portland.
Saturday’s plans include breakfast at 8 a.m. in the meeting room at Richard’s Restaurant, possibly playing golf afterward (see Kirk King), lunch at El Camino Real at 1:30 p.m., then meeting at a park or John Jay Center for Learning in case of rain, followed by a 4 p.m tour of Jay County High School.
There will be a party at Portland Elks Lodge from 7 p.m. to midnight, with finger food, ’70s music playing and the bar will be available.
The cost is $15 for singles and $25 for couples. The fee can be paid at gofundme.com JCHS Class of 78 Reunion Fund or by cash or check at the Elks on Saturday.
Jewelry class
A jewelry class will be held Thursday at the South Adams Senior Center, 825 Hendricks St. in Berne.
Participants can come anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to make jewelry with leather and freshwater pearls.
The cost will be from $8 to $36 depending on what jewelry is made.

Book sale
Berne Public Library, 166 Sprunger St., will have a Swiss Days book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the library’s front yard.
NCGLNAC classes
National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture will have Summer Cultural Arts Classes in August.
They will be held Aug. 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the Women’s Building at Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland.
Classes will be offered to make a leather hunting bag, a gourd rattle, a leather puzzle pouch, a beaded turtle pendant, earrings with brickstitch beading, a steel knife and beaded chokers.
Other classes will include basics of braintanning, beading, silversmithing, antler carving and flute playing.
A Cultural Immersion class and Gourd Art and More will be available for children six and younger.
Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, and the Welcome Circle will begin at 9 a.m. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 5 p.m. each day.

Dunkirk will have city-wide garage sales on Aug. 3 and 4. Forms are available at The News and Sun office in Dunkirk.

Area students received degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, at a ceremony held in May.
Zane Shreve, Redkey, graduated SUMMA, with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Also graduating were Melissa Knapke and Hayden Pottkotter, both of Fort Recovery.
