DAYTON, Ohio — A dozen runs and shutout victory one day.
One run and a loss the next.
The Fort Wayne TinCap offense failed to repeat a stout showing from the night before as it dropped a 2-1 contest to the Dayton?Dragons on Thursday at Fifth Third Field.
Dayton (Cincinnati Reds) broke the scoreless tie when Alejo Lopez hit an RBI single in the sixth inning. The Dragons (16-17, 47-54) added one more run in the seventh.
Fort Wayne (15-17, 47-54) scored its only run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Gabrial Arias singled to center field to score Kelvin Melean, who reached on a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch.
TinCap Tom Cosgrove had his third straight quality start. He matched his career high of eight strikeouts — it was the second straight start doing so and the fourth time this season. The 22-year-old righty allowed one earned run on seven hits with a pair of walks.
Dayton’s Hunter Greene, the second pick in the 2017 draft, lasted just two innings and left the game with an upset stomach. His last pitch of the first inning was clocked at 102 MPH, a new stadium record.
