Property owners need protection
To the editor:
It has come to my attention that there are those that do not believe that those living in the proposed wind farm regarding the depreciation of home values and were wanting proof of said depreciation.
One such document can be downloaded from the internet at apps.psc.wi.gov/vs2015/erf_view/viewdoc.aspx?docid=172261.
This report was given by Kurt Kielisch and is the president of Forensic Appraisal Group, Ltd. In the report he states that there is a 10 percent to 40 percent depreciation in the home value of those that live in proximity to wind turbines.
Another document can be found online at wayandmeans.house.gov/uploadedfiles/michael_S.McCann.pdf.
In his statement to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means he states that those living near wind turbines can experience home depreciation of 25 percent to 40 percent.
I do not have a problem with Jay County putting windmills in the area as long as Jay County protects its residents with a home value protection plan.
If like Scout says there is no home depreciation then this would be of no expense to them and would protect the homeowners of Jay County.
This was done for those within a 1-mile radius of the landfill and should be done for those that are in a 1-mile radius of each wind turbine. Jay County should not discriminate between the two.
A concerned citizen of Jay County,
