Michael A. Crooks, age 65, of rural Portland passed away Thursday evening at his residence. He was born in Emporia, Kansas May 25, 1953 the son of Meryl and Helen (Joyce) Crooks. He was married July 7, 1973 to Anne Koors who survives. He was a 1971 Kokomo High School graduate. He was vice president of manufacturing for Red Gold and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife Anne, one son Kevin Crooks (wife: April) of Jacksonville, Florida, three daughters Antionette Simos (husband: Joshua) of Dominican Republic, Melissa Brunswick (husband: Keith) of Portland and Cynthia Wendel (husband: Brad) of Bryant, mother Helen Smith (husband: Joseph) of Kokomo, one sister Patricia Crooks of Kokomo, step-brother Monte Smith (wife: Lea) of Noblesville, step-sister Cindy Henry of Indianapolis, and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland. Memorials can be made to the State of the Heart Hospice or Choice of the donor.
