Helen Miller
March 9, 1925-June 11, 2018
Helen Louise Flauding Miller, 93, went home to the arms of Jesus Monday, June 11, 2018, at her home in Southgate, Michigan.
Reunited with her husband of 56 years, C. Glen Miller (d. 2007), Helen leaves behind three daughters, Sharon L. Forbes (Steve), Indianapolis, Sandra A. Radvanyi (Mark), Amherstburg, Ontario, and Robin E. Long (Virgil), Accident, Maryland; three granddaughters; and four great-granddaughters.
Born at home in Portland, Indiana, on March 9, 1925, to Frederick G. (1981) and Viola Baughman Flauding (1972), Helen played the piano from the age of 5 and taught piano most of her adult life in Portland, Pennville, Fort Wayne and Fremont.
Helen graduated in 1943 from Portland High School. She grew up in the Trinity United Methodist (EUB) Church, transferring to Pennville (United) Methodist Church after her marriage to Glen Miller June 9, 1951.
Helen worked as a bookkeeper in Fort Wayne for Dick Stehl Electric and Plumbing for manyyears, and had been a telephone operator in Portland during World War II. She had also worked for the REMC and the office at Weiler's. She was a member of the Portland Music Club and later a life member of the Orland American Legion Auxiliary. Before her retirement, she attended beauty school with her daughter Robin.
Her beloved brother Max passed away in 1966 Portland.
She is also survived by cousins Nancy Swingley and Jackie Baughman of Portland, and extended family in Winchester, Portland, Ridgeville and Whitley County.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Williamson, Spencerand Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Twin Hill Cemetery in Pennville.
