New construction tops $3 million
Building permits were issued for more than $3 million in new construction in May by the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Office.
The two largest projects involved parking lot, driveway and sidewalk construction at East and General Shanks elementaries in connection with the consolidation of classes in Jay Schools.
Work at East Elementary School totals $621,930. The General Shanks Elementary School project comes in at $551,530.
The new O’Reilly Auto Parts store slated for the former Ponderosa location at 1002 N. Meridian St. in Portland was issued a $500,000 permit. The permit was issued to the Hutton Company.
Alvin Brenneman was issued a permit for a $400,000 dog kennel at 5084 W. 400 North.
McDonald’s Corp. was issued a permit for a $280,000 upcoming remodeling project at its Portland store.
Other permits were issued to Randy Bickel for a $12,000 building addition at 1428 W. 350 South, Christian A.R. Graber for a $15,000 pole barn at 1452 W. 400 North, Horn Equipment Leasing Inc. for a $57,000 grain bin at 8201 W. 50 South, Jack Shawver for a $20,000 grain bin at 1326 W. 200 North, Rodney Muhlenkamp for an $18,000 barn and grain bin at 4239 E. 800 North, Mitch Loy for a $4,000 pole barn at 1503 W. 800 South, Daniel V. Shetler for a $10,000 barn lean-to at 4618 N. 150 East, Daniel H.B. Schwartz for a $10,000 barn addition at 4043 W. 650 North, Gary McIntire for a $35,000 residential addition and pole barn at 9817 W. 300 South, Nicholas Gibbs for an $8,000 barn addition at 9666 W. 400 South, and Baird-Freeman Funeral Home for $6,000 awnings at 221 N.
