Wind farms will help the county
To the editor:
I want to talk wind farms.
In this day and age, a history has developed from generations of people who have worked all their adult lives in factories and raised their families around that way of life.
Originally, they were Monday through Friday jobs and work was mostly three eight-hour shifts per day. So, you worked your shift, you came home, spent time doing housework or yard work or laundry, and worked a home teaching your youngsters how its done so they knew how to take over one day.
Today there are fewer factories, but of the ones that are left many don’t want you to work that way anymore. They want as many hours as possible, and as few workers as possible. So you work 10-to-12-hour days, and six or seven days a week. That leaves no time to spend with families, or do anything else, just work, eat sleep. What about family life?
A number of years, our country bargained away a portion of our long-term future here, when the landfill became owned outside the county. That was so we could accumulate everybody else’s trash here, and fill the county up with trash.
Question: What happens when we don’t have anymore room for trash? We get some from Fort Wayne, Celina, Ohio and who knows how far away from other states, at least five days a week.
Now I called on a family next to several windmills one day. We talked, both indoors and out, for a half an hour or so. Nothing interfered with our conversation. I heard not noise from them, and nobody had trouble hearing each other. I’ve sat in the country, listening — silence.
On the property value issue, I feel that will only be a temporary problem. As people are around them more, they will realize it’s not an issue, and property values will go up, rather than down.
This is an issue we as a country must face for the future. I feel we must concentrate on other energy sources for the future instead of the coal and oil industries.
Instead of listening to all these scare tactics, look to what our county needs for the future.
This will help pay taxes to provide income for the county instead of constantly raising what must then com out of our pockets.
If we don’t do things like windmills, solar panels, etc., we are taking more money from individuals instead of adding income that ultimately will make our county more thriving and productive.
Sincerely,
Verna Loper
