FORT RECOVERY — The visitors were in control from the start.
The Jay County Summer Swim Team won nine out of 10 medley relay races Monday, building a big early lead as it defeated the Fort Recovery Eels 1,527-726 at Ambassador Pool. Jay County took 17 of 20 relays overall and 53 of 60 individual events.
In improving to 3-0 on the year, Jay County had multiple triple-event winners in three age groups. Maria Laux took the 8-and-younger girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke while Raif Beiswanger was first in the boys long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke. In the 9-10-year-old division it was Maddy Snow and Matthew Fisher winning the butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke in the girls and boys races, respectively. And in the 15-and-older division, Alex Bader took the girls long freestyle, breaststroke and short freestyle while Jason Minnich won the boys long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.
Also winning three events was Mara Bader, who was first in the 13-14-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
The lone triple winner for Fort Recovery was Teigen Fortkamp, who reached the wall first in the 11-12-year-old girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.
Flamespray wins two
Flamespray picked up a couple of wins recently in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball action, defeating Pak-a-Sak 16-3 Monday after a 16-9 win Friday over Pioneer Packaging.
Grant Fennig and Maverick Reier paced Flamespray with 3-for-4 efforts in Monday’s win. Roman Clamme, Benton Langenkamp and Mitchell Byrum had one hit apiece. Flamespray stats from Friday’s game were not available.
Bentley Comer was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Pioneer in the loss to Flamespray. Deric Coons and Brayden Scott each had three hits in a 12-11 loss Monday to Barnett’s.
Also Monday, A.J. Myers, Griffin Byrum and Landon Garringer each had a hit and two runs as Optimist defeated Inman U Loc 7-6 in Willie Mays action.
In PJL?Major softball Friday, Jay Lodge 87 topped Graphic Printing 16-7 led by two hits apiece from Rieley Brewster and Drew Dressel.
