William Besser
William H. (Bill) Besser, 92, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2018, while in the company of family members at Miller's Merry Manor, in Dunkirk, Indiana.
Bill was born in Blackford County, Indiana, on Jan. 9, 1926, a son of the late Lucy L. (McDaniel) and Milton W. Besser. He attended Pennville High School and worked for Indiana Glass as a foreman until his retirement.
Bill was a member of the Dunkirk American Legion Post #227 and its honor guard, dedicating countless hours to other veterans and their families throughout his years of service. He attended the Dunkirk Church of the Nazarene, enjoyed wood working, feeding the birds and squirrels around his home, listening to country music — Hank Williams Sr., George Jones and Alan Jackson — and listening to gospel music. He also loved animals and spending time with his children and grandchildren over the years.
Bill was the devoted father of two sons, H. Steve Besser (wife: Cindy) of Albany, Indiana, and Tony Besser (wife: Kim) of Dunkirk, Indiana. He is also survived by three brothers, Joseph Besser, Lowell Besser and Jeffery Besser; one sister, Marlyn Fite; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred Besser and Phillip Besser; two sisters, Winifred Wright and Virginia Grubbs; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday, June 20, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Dunkirk Chapel as well as one hour prior to the funeral Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 11 a.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Dunkirk Chapel with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Dunkirk American Legion Post #227.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to ARF. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries – Dunkirk Chapel.
