Ardagh designers create new bottle

Business Roundup

The in-house design team at Ardagh Group has developed a new thin-wall glass bottle for mineral water, according to a press release this week.

Ardagh is the parent company of glass container plants in Dunkirk and Winchester.

The new bottle, produced at Ardagh’s facility in Gostyn, Poland, is a 750 milliliter piece designed for Tiche, a Lithuanian bottler of mineral water.

A key requirement for the bottle was the ability to withstand a high carbonation pressure while still using thin glass walls in order to reduce the environmental impact.

“The combination of two critical requirements — thin glass walls and high durability — was achieved using finite element analysis (technology,” said Barbara Macialczyk, a marketing manager at Ardagh.

“Our sales and design teams have achieved an elegant and curvaceous bottle with a tapered label panel. … We're delighted with how we’ve achieved a premiumised look through the embossed crest, whilst retaining strength in this new, lightweight bottle,” she said in a prepared statement.

The program was launched in Indiana last May and now involves 1,000 I&M customers.

The utility is offering a rebate of up to $200 for customers installing qualified smart thermostats and installation discounts of up to $125.

Sued

Retailers Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods are now being sued because they decided to raise the minimum age for buying a firearm and ammunition to 21 from 18.

Tyler Watson, 20, of Oregon alleges he encountered age discrimination when he tried to purchase a .22-caliber Ruger rifle at Field & Stream, an outdoors sports store in Medford, Oregon, owned by Dick’s. In Oregon, state law allows residents to purchase firearms at age 18.

Watson’s suit alleges age discrimination.

McDonald’s announced Tuesday that it plans to bring fresh beef to a majority of its locations in the U.S. by early May.
