Mary Younce

Mary Kathrine “Kay” (Hummer) Younce passed away March 7, 2018, in Winnetka, California at the age of 77.

Kay was born Aug. 31, 1940, to R. Glenn and Nina Hummer in Portland, Indiana. Kay graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1958 where she was crowned the prom queen of the senior class.

Kay was a talented singer who often accompanied her brother, Jerry Hummer, on numerous big band type performances throughout Indiana towns in the 1960s.

Kay moved to California permanently in 1968 with her first husband, James Martin, who was stationed at Point Mugu naval base. They divorced in 1970.

Rather than return to Portland as she had in the past, she remained in Oxnard, California, where she met and married Donn Younce in 1972. Kay and Donn were married for 40 years until his passing in 2012. Kay held a variety of jobs but her primary role was being a mother.

Kay is survived by her son Brett Martin, daughter Michelle Morgan and grandsons Drew and Luke Morgan, all in Valley Glen, California. She is also survived by four steps-sons in the Younce family, Larry, Mike, Jim and Donnie, and their extended families.
