Schools to have book battle

Book battle

The 4th annual Battle Of The Books will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Fort Recovery Middle/Elementary School Auditeria.

The battle will be between Fort Recovery and Coldwater schools. Twelve teams of students in fourth through sixth grade will compete against each other using a list of pre-selected book titles to see who has the most knowledge.

Parents and community members are welcome to come and offer support.



Underwater egg hunt

Friday is the last day to register for an underwater Easter egg hunt to be held on March 20 at South Adams High School pool.

The event is for children ages three to 12. Doors will open at 6:10 p.m.  and the event will begin at 6:30 p.m. An open swim will then be held until 8 p.m. 

Bring a mesh bag or bucket to put collected eggs in. The cost is $4. To register, call Andy Lehman at (260) 589-1101 ext. 238 or email [email protected].



Library events

A special event will be held Saturday at Jay County Public Library.

Visitors can learn to loom knit at 10 a.m. This program is for anyone who may not be able to knit with needles or wants to learn the basics of using a knitting loom. A dishcloth will be made to take home. To register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.

The JayCPL Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday to discuss the  book “Hidden Figures” by Margot Lee Shetterl.

Friends of the Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Everyone is welcome to come at 6 p.m. to help fold April Newsnotes. 

 

John Jay class

A Purdue University Basic Excel Skills class will be held in April at John Jay Center for Learning, 101 S. Meridian St. in Portland. Microsoft Excel is used to perform calculations and track information and data and the class is for those working in office and manufacturing environments who have little or no experience with it.

The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 12 and the cost is $99. To register by April 9, call JJCL at (260) 729-5525. 



Singles dance

The Darke County Singles Group will host a singles dance on Saturday, March 24, for those 21 and older. 

It will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. in the ballroom of VFW Post No. 7262 at 219 N. Ohio St. in  Greenville, Ohio.

The band “Hearts of Fire” will play and there is a $6 admission fee.

 

Diabetes program

A diabetes prevention program will begin in April in Strickler Library at Adams Memorial Hospital Strickler Cancer Institute in Decatur. The program is for those   with pre-diabetes (FPG 100-125MG/DL) or (2HR-PG 140-199MG/DL), or have a high A1C (5.7-6.4%)

Classes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, April 12, and continuing for 22 sessions.
