ANSONIA, Ohio — The Indian offense wasted no time jumping on the Tigers.

Fort Recovery High School’s softball team scored twice in the first inning and opened with seven consecutive runs Monday as it began the 2018 season with a 9-4 victory over Ansonia.

It was the first victory of her career for coach EJ Stephen.

After leading 2-0, Fort Recovery (1-0) added five runs in the top of the third inning for a commanding advantage. Taylor Grisez had a two-run single as part of the five-run third, while Hannah Knapke and Aleigha Jenkins also notched RBIs. Jenkins later scored on an error.

Ansonia did all of its damage in the bottom of the third on a walk, a pair of doubles and two singles.

Jenkins led the Tribe offense with a pair of doubles, while Olivia Homan also had two singles. Knapke and Grisez both knocked in two RBIs. Bailey Tebbe, Rachel Thien and Knapke each scored twice.

Homan went the distance pitching for the Indians, allowing four runs — three earned — on six hits. She walked one and struck out a career-high 10 batters.
