Loretta E. Welsch, age 97, a longtime rural Bryant resident, passed away Monday at Swiss Village in Berne.
She was born in Jay County on July 19, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Odelia (Wagner) Laux. She was married May 19, 1945, to Harold “Doc” Welsch, and he died July 13, 1999.
She was a registered nurse working in Fort Wayne, Jay County and CTS in Berne. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality.
Surviving are four daughters, Kaye Windmiller (husband: Larry) of Fort Wayne, Theresa Linn (husband: Terry) of Celina, Vickie Reitz (husband: Steve) of Bryant, and Alice Bruggeman (husband: Jim) of Bryant; two brothers, Francis Laux of Bryant, and Ralph Laux of Bryant; four sisters, Agnes Clark of Ashtabula, Ohio, Alice Crane of Florida, Anna Jetmore of Huntertown, and Stella Burns of Clearwater, Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bryant with Fr. Ken Ault presiding. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland. Memorials can be made to the Hospice Group of choice.
