Carl Corwin
March 7, 1953-April 26, 2018
Carl Corwin, 65, a lifelong resident of rural Portland, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018.
Carl was born on March 7, 1953, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Cornelius “Corky” and Mary Rose (Pfeifer) Corwin. He graduated from Pennville High School in 1971. On June 17, 1972, he married the love of his life and spent the next 45 years living their life together to the fullest in every form.
Carl retired from Marsh Supermarkets after 35 years and went on to be self employed, retiring from that in 2012. He was an avid and lifelong farmer and enjoyed watching as his son followed in his footsteps. Carl was a loving, kind and generous man who was a hard worker and would give the shirt off his back for any of his friends and neighbors, but the real joy of his life was family. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and planning play dates so he could be surrounded by them.
Carl was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #145, Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and the Sons of the American Legion in Pennville.
In addition to his wife Karla, he is survived by his children KaTura Bishop (husband: Scott), Hartford City, and Terence Corwin (wife: Ashley), Portland; and six grandchildren who were the light of his world; his one sister Elaine Bickel, Portland; four brothers, John Corwin (wife: Kathy), Pennville, Neal Corwin (wife: Freda), Bryant, Phil Corwin, Portland, and Bob Corwin (wife: Martha), Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cornelius and Mary Rose Corwin, brother Thomas Corwin and son Travis Corwin.
The family will be celebrating his life with a brief service on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Corwin Residence, 8031 Indiana 26. Afterward, friends and neighbors are invited to visit with the family and remember all the wonderful stories of this very honorable, loving and generous soul until 5 p.m.
Arrangements entrusted to Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
