South Adams High School’s softball team ended a three-game losing streak by sweeping the Jay County Patriots in a doubleheader Tuesday.
The Class 2A No. 4 Starfires (12-3, 3-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) won the first game — the conference tilt — by a 12-8 margin, and held off the Patriots (4-6, 1-2 ACAC) for an 11-8 win to get the sweep.
Isabella Ramirez led the South Adams offense with six hits, including three doubles, and drove in three runs. She also scored five times.
Emilie Hammell hit her second home run of the season and added three more hits while finishing with four RBIs. Tori Raugh had two doubles, a pair of singles and two RBIs, as Jenna Myers also had two doubles with four RBIs.
Kady Finnerty led Jay County with five hits, including three doubles, and collected five RBIs. Emily Corn tallied a double and three singles, and Kinsey Litton went deep for her second time this season. Aubrie Schwieterman and Sam Twigg both contributed three hits for the Patriots.
Anna Nussbaum earned the win in game one, while Jade Baker picked up the victory in the second game.
Wendel tosses no-no
MINSTER, Ohio — Cade Wendel threw a no-hitter Tuesday, guiding the Division III No. 6 Fort Recovery baseball team to a 1-0 victory over the Minster Wildcats.
The win puts the Indians (16-4, 7-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) on the verge of the first conference title in program history.
Minster (13-7, 4-4 MAC), which is defending Division IV state champion, couldn’t figure out the Tribe senior. Wendel struck out 11 and only walked a pair on 79 pitches, 57 of which were for strikes. He threw first-pitch strikes to 16 of the 24 batters he faced.
Nick Thwaits drove in Riley Post in the top of the third inning for the game’s only run.
Will Homan finished with two hits, while Joe Homan and Ethan Schoen also notched singles.
Fort Recovery hosts New Knoxville (2-13, 0-7 MAC) on Thursday. A win guarantees at least a share of the MAC title.

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery softball team dipped to 1-6 in MAC play Tuesday with a 12-0 loss to the Minster Wildcats in five innings.
The Division IV No. 6 Wildcats scored six times in the first inning and added four more runs in the top of the third. They tacked on two more in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Taylor Grisez had the only hit for the Indians, who committed five errors in the field. Brenna Homan reached base via a walk.
Olivia Homan allowed 12 runs — six earned — on 10 hits. She walked one in taking the loss.
Brewster leads Jay
BERNE — Rieley Brewster hit her third home run of the season Tuesday, leading Jay County’s junior varsity softball team to a 17-12 win over South Adams.
Brewster also had a single and three RBIs, helping the Patriots move to 3-1 on the year.
Natalie Miles also went deep, her first of the season, and she scored twice. Breanna Randall had a double and drove in two runs, while Justice Day contributed a double, a single and three RBIs.
Haley Gillette, Lexie Ferguson, Drew Dressel and Abbi Kuss each added singles.
Day earned her first victory pitching for Jay County, which erased a 12-8 deficit by scoring nine runs in the sixth inning.
South Adams stats were not provided.

BERNE — The South Adams junior varsity baseball team scored 12 times in the first inning and collected 29 hits in a 19-2 thrashing of the Jay County Patriots on Tuesday.
Aaron Timmons led the Starfires with two triples and a pair of singles. He scored four times and had two RBIs.
Brayden Sprunger managed the only hit for Jay County, which scored twice in the top of the fourth inning. Frankie Crump walked twice.
Luke Yoder was credited with the victory. He gave up one hit in two innings, striking out five and walking two.
