Richard A. “Ricky” Portz, age 61, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, died May 5, 2018, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.
He was born Nov. 23, 1956, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Charles and Maxine (Shumaker) Portz.
He is survived by brothers Joe (Deb) Portz of St. Marys and Robert (Kathy) Portz of Fort Recovery; and step-brother Jim Boyd of Fort Recovery. He is also survived by a community of friends.
He is a graduate of Fort Recovery High School. He was a member of the Booster and Community Club, the former Lions Club and the Church of the Nazarene, all of Fort Recovery.
Ricky was an avid fan of anything Fort Recovery. He was inducted into the Fort Recovery Hall of Fame in 1995. He loved attending sporting events and was known for riding around town on his golf cart. He enjoyed the Fort Recovery tractor pulls, meeting the people who came to town, selling 50/50 tickets, announcing at the Jubilee, collecting and crushing cans, and playing cards. Ricky is known by many as being the Fort Recovery Indian's No. 1 fan.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Church of the Nazarene Family Center, Fort Recovery. Burial will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery, at a later date. Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery is in charge of arrangements.
