Sandra K. Lawrence, age 71, of Bryant, passed away from a sudden illness Saturday evening at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Bryant on Sept. 6, 1946, the daughter of Harold Olen and Grace Ann (Smith) Whetstone. She was married Oct. 11, 1964, to Linley William Lawrence, who survives. She was a 1964 Bryant High School graduate and was valedictorian of her class. She was retired having worked for Bank of Geneva and bookkeeper for Dr. Steenburg among other jobs. She was a member of Bryant Wesleyan Church and West Walnut Street Church of Christ, and was active in many church functions.

She was active in many service organizations including Cat Tales, Pregnancy Care Center, Community and Family Services, Etc. Shop and others. She was a very giving and loving person, loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. She loved baking and garage sales.

Surviving are her husband Bill; one son, Gary Lawrence (wife: Kathy) of Portland; one daughter, Rita Flick (husband: Brian) of Ridgeville; three brothers, Michael Whetstone of Portland, Jeff Whetstone of Bryant and Joe Whetstone of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; two sisters, Elizabeth Baughn of Portland and Sue Twigg of Bryant; and three grandchildren Brittany Flick, Mariah Lawrence and Gavin Ray.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Paul Van Cise and Gil Alicia presiding. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
