The Patriots hit for the team cycle in the first inning.
The four-run cushion was enough they needed for the win.
Jay County High School’s baseball team earned a 6-1 victory over the Southern Wells Raiders in Allen County Athletic Conference play Tuesday at Don E. Selvey Field.
Cole Stigleman led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, and scored on a Ryan Schlechty triple. Max Moser doubled to center to bring Schlechty home, and Ethan Myers blasted a two-run homer to left field.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning, and Jay County (10-5, 4-1 ACAC) tacked on one more in the bottom of the sixth.
Myers added two singles and led the Patriots with three RBIs. Schlechty added a double, while Noah Arbuckle and Daniel Fugiett also contributed hits.
Schlechty struck out a career-high 13 batters, allowing one earned run on two hits in seven innings. He walked two batters.
Jay beats Raiders
Five runs in the second inning and eight more in the third inning spelled the right combination for the Jay County softball team in a 15-2 thumping of the Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday in five innings.

Hannah Phillips was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Emily Corn followed with three hits and and RBI, as Chloe Trissel contributed a double, two singles and a pair of RBIs. Sam Twigg chipped in three singles.
Kensey Litton collected a double, two singles and three RBIs, while Maggie Pryor had two doubles and a stolen base.
Tennis wins
Jay County’s girls tennis team picked up a big 5-0 victory over sectional rival Randolph Southern on Tuesday.
Shelby McClain at No. 1 singles earned a 6-0, 6-1 win, and Katy Hamilton won at No. 3 singles by the same margin.
Klarisa Hemmelgarn earned a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles.
Cousins Audrey Dirksen and Kayla Dirksen got a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Emily Reier and Betsy Muhlenkamp picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Golfers third
WARREN — Collin Haines was three strokes over par as the Jay County golf team finished third Tuesday at Dogwood Glen Golf Course.
Bluffton shot 177 to win, and Southern Wells had 185 for second. Jay County totaled a season-best 198.
Haines led the Patriots with 39. Griffin Mann was second on the team with 50 and Devin Harris shot 52 for third on the squad. Joey Hall completed the team score with 57.
Tait Longsworth also competed, but his round of 60 did not factor into the team total.
JV baseball loses
MONROE — Jay County’s junior varsity baseball team surrendered 13 runs in the first three innings in a 13-2 loss to Adams Central in five innings Tuesday.
Adams Central plated four runs in the first inning and added three in the second. The Jets completed their scoring with six in the third frame. Jay County’s only runs came in the top of the fourth, ending a stretch of 13 straight runs for Adams Central.
Michael Stevens and Blake Caldwell had the only hits for the Patriots, who committed four errors.
