Royce J. Wright, age 91, a resident of rural Portland, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018, at IU Health Jay in Portland.
Royce was born on Nov. 4, 1926, in Jay County, the son of Walter and Virgie (Champ) Wright. He graduated from Bryant High School.
Royce was a farmer and owned/operated RJ Wright and Sons Lime and Fertilizer. He served as a Jay County councilman for several years and was president for Jay County Farmers Union. He was a member of the Noble Congregation Christian Church.
Royce married Maryellen Mitchell on May 13, 1950, and she passed away on Jan. 28, 2018.
Survivors include:
Two sons — Jay Wright (wife: Sandy), Reed City, Michigan, and Greg Wright (wife: Tammy). Portland, Indiana
Five grandchildren
Eight great-grandchildren
Two Step-grandchildren
Six step-great-grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Larry Eads and Aaron Huey will officiate. Burial will follow in the IOOF Twin Hill Cemetery in Pennville.
Memorials may be directed towards Noble Congregational Christian Church or Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
