The Patriots got another win over a sectional rival Wednesday.

Jay County High School’s girls tennis team blanked the Union City Indians 5-0 in a match rescheduled from earlier in the season.

Shelby McClain didn’t drop a single game at No. 1 singles as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Klarisa Hemmelgarn handily won the first set 6-1, then had to battle for a 7-5 win in the second set at No. 2 singles.

Katy Hamilton won her No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, cousins Audrey Dirksen and Kayla Dirksen teamed for a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Emily Reier and Betsy Muhlenkamp earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory.



Wendel leads Inman

Grant Wendel had two doubles, two singles and scored four times on Wednesday as Inman U-Loc beat Kiwanis 13-6 in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division.

Nick Laux contributed a triple, three singles, four RBIs and three runs for Inman, which also got a triple, a single and two runs from Lucas Strait. Drew Schemenaur collected a triple, two singles and a pair of RBIs.


Carter Barton, Austin Curtis and Gavin Young each had one hit and a run for Kiwanis. Freddie Lingo, Wyatt LeMaster and Chance Morgan each scored a run.



Homestead wins

Homestead Bedding earned a 12-4 victory over Display Craft on Wednesday in PJL’s Rookie softball division.

Harlow Hough led Homestead with three doubles, as Kali Newell, Khloe Myers, Kylie Shannon, Stella Skirvin, Gabi Petro and Layla Armstrong all collected three singles.

Bailey Towell, Isabella Osborne and Savanah Fields each had a pair of singles for Display Craft. Presleigh Moore, Kendall Shemeneaur, Chaley Butler, Reva Ballard and Blazlyn Gregory each singled.
