PARKER CITY — The Patriots are on a bit of a roll.

Just in time to make a splash in the postseason.

Jay County High School’s softball team scored six times in the second inning en route to a 10-5 victory over the host Monroe Central Golden Bears on Tuesday.

It was the fourth consecutive victory for Jay County (10-5), and the seventh in its last eight games.

After leading 6-1 heading into the third inning, the Bears started a bit of a rally in trimming the score to 6-4 with four complete.

Jay County struck for four more runs in the fifth, and Monroe Central got one back in the home half of the frame for the eventual final score.

Kensey Litton led the Patriot offense with a double, two singles and a pair of RBIs. Aubrie Schwieterman collected two doubles and two RBIs as Sam Twigg contributed two singles while driving in a pair of runs.

Maggie Pryor, Hannah Phillips, Emily Corn and Kaylee Inman all chipped in singles.



Optimist wins two

Portland Optimist moved to 4-0 on the season Monday with a pair of victories in Portland Junior League’s Willie Mays division.

Optimist knocked off Kiwanis 13-1 before a 9-2 victory against Inman U-Loc.

Landon Garringer totaled four hits and six runs, while Jayden Harrell and Keegan Cavanaugh both had two hits, two RBIs and a run. Vasin Ridgway tallied two hits and two runs, while AJ Myers contributed one hit and two runs.

For Kiwanis, Austin Curtis accounted for the team’s only run.

Drew Shemenaur and Luke Miller both scored for Inman in the loss.



Four lead Pioneer

Four players had three hits on Monday, leading Pioneer Packaging to a 12-7 victory over All-Circuit Electrical in PJL’s Rookie baseball action.

Bentley Comer had a triple, a double, a single and two RBIs for Pioneer, which also got three singles and two RBIs from Rayden Sollars. Dillon Jellison collected three singles and an RBI, while Irik Donathan chipped in three singles.

For All-Circuit, Shawn Harrell, Bryor Garringer and Aiden Stallsmith were all 3-for-3, while Logan Wendel and Brady Millspaugh had two hits apiece.



FCC edges Dunkirk

FCC (Indiana) edged Dunkirk by a 10-9 margin on Monday in the Sandy Koufax division of Portland Junior League.

Jayden Hartzell’s two doubles, two RBIs and three runs led FCC, as Owen Ransom had a double, two RBIs and scored once. Bryce Wenk tallied three runs.

Ashton Kuss hit two doubles, a single and scored twice in the loss for Dunkirk. Caleb Hale also had a double, while Hunter Miller notched an RBI.



Lions top Kiwanis

The Lions topped Kiwanis 10-8 on Monday in PJL’s Willie Mays division.

Wes Wenning, Isaac Scott and Eli Stockton all hit home runs for Lions. Austin Jellison had a double and a single, while Aaron Montes chipped in a single.

Austin Curtis led Kiwanis with three singles, and Gavin Young had a pair of hits. Sylas Wenk, Cole Carpenter and Freddie Lingo each singled.



Barnett’s wins

Barnett’s Auto Parts earned a 7-5 victory on Tuesday over All-Circuit Electrical in Rookie baseball action of Portland Junior League.

Varen Ridgway had a three-run home run and two more hits for Barnett’s. Oakland Ingram finished with three hits and two RBIs, and Brayden Keihn had three hits and an RBI. Chase Braggs and Brady Fausnaugh tallied three hits each.

Bryor Garringer and Logan Wendel had three hits each for All-Circuit. Garringer also tallied two RBIs. Jaxon Dehoff had two singles and three RBIs, and Brady Millspaugh added three hits in the losing effort.
