William Nash
Dec. 7, 1915-May 17, 2018
William O. (Bill) Nash, 102, of Winchester, Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Reid Memorial Hospital, in Richmond, Indiana.
Bill was born in Tipton County on Dec. 7, 1915, a son of the late Nella (Hilligoss) and Oliver Perry Nash. In 1934 he was a member of the first graduating class of Prairie Township High School.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army, and was the husband of Doris K. (Neil) Nash whom he happily married on Feb. 26, 1946.
Bill was as a farmer and also worked as a dump truck driver for Fred J. Stewart Trucking.
Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester, and a life member of the Union City VFW, Ridgeville American Legion, Tri-State Gas Engine Association and Darke County Steam Thrashers. He enjoyed building, flying ultralight airplanes and driving go-carts, motorcycles and steam engines. He also enjoyed watching the Indy 500 and listening to Jerry Clowers, Jerry Reed and Ray Stevens comedy.
Above all other things he was proud of his service to our county and the fact that he survived World War II being in the Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Forest, Northern France, the Battle of Central Europe and Rhineland as a member of the 84th Infantry Division Railsplitter Society.
Bill is survived by his lovely wife Doris; three sons, Robert Nash (wife: Marlene) of Ridgeville, and Rex Nash and Richard Nash, both of Fort Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Perry Nash and Sarah Vance; and three great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Cobe Vance, and Beckham Nash; and special friends Troy and Cheryl Prescott.
He was preceded in death by his parents and precious daughter, Patricia Nash.
Friends are invited to call Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 4 to 6 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Ridgeville Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winchester, at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018, with Father Logsdon officiating.
Graveside services will follow in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, with military honors performed by the Union City VFW and the Randolph County Veterans.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries – Ridgeville Chapel.
