Letha Bechtol

Feb. 5, 1919-May 24, 2018

Letha F. "Fern" Bechtol, age 99, of Huber Heights, Ohio, formerly of Howe, Indiana, and Fort Recovery, Ohio, died May 24, 2018, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Portland, Indiana, to the late Charles and Lulu (Jones) Abbott.

On April 8, 1939, she married Paul J. Bechtol, who died Jan. 16, 1992.

Surviving are her children, Nancy Steed of Redkey, Indiana, Paul E. (Nancy) Bechtol of Cookeville, Tennessee, Carl (Karen) Bechtol of Fort Recovery, Ohio, and Linda (Harry) Ness of Huber Heights, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Betty Bechtol of Fort Recovery, Ohio, Bonnie Abbott of Portland, Indiana, and Emma Jane Crouse of Portland, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mae Adkins; a grandson, Paul Micheal Bechtol; brothers, Russel, Ralph and Charles Abbott; infant brothers, Everet, Arthur and Frederick Abbott; sisters, Opal Butcher, Daisy Romine, Dorothy Bergman, Mary Teeters, Rita Garner, Martha Crouse, Reba Bentz, and Linnie Upp; and infant sisters, Fay and May Abbott.


She was a graduate of Bryant High School, Bryant, Indiana.

Fern loved to square dance with her husband in earlier years, she also enjoyed gardening in her flower beds and crocheting blankets for her family. She will be greatly missed by so many.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. Burial will follow at Salamonia Cemetery, Salamonia, Indiana.

Calling is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
