Judy Mitchel

Judy A. Mitchel, 73, of Bryant, Indiana, passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 31, 2018, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 26, 1945, in Adams County, Indiana, to Louis Bercot and Alice L. (Schaefer) Bercot Burkhart. She married Ned Mitchel on Dec. 20, 1963, at Six Mile Church in Bluffton, Indiana. 

Judy had worked for Jay School Corporation for 24 years as a teacher’s aide.

She was a longtime member of the Decatur Church of God where she had taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery for many years. She loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Ned Mitchel of Bryant; a son, Greg (Julie) Mitchel of Coatesville, Indiana; two daughters, Amy (Stacey) Embry of Elberfeld, Indiana, and Kelli (Robert) Street of Pendleton, Indiana; a brother, Chester (Penny) Bercot of Bluffton, Indiana; four sisters, Carol (Michael) McCulloch and Nancy Fark, both of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Sharon (Melvin) Burkhart and Harriet Burkhart, both of Decatur, Indiana; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Bercot.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Decatur Church of God with Dr. Robert Brink and Pastor Jay Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne.   

Family and friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
