Franklin Garrison

Franklin A. “Sparky” Garrison, 95, of Pennville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at VA Northern Indiana Health Care System-Marion Campus in Marion, Indiana.

He was born on Saturday, Nov. 25, 1922, in Montpelier, Indiana. He married Mildred E. Fear on Monday, June 21, 1943, in Seattle; she passed on Feb. 8, 2014.

Sparky attended Montpelier High School and served his country in the U.S. Army from March 23, 1943, to Dec. 9, 1945, during WWII. He retired in 1987 from Borg Warner Automotive in Muncie.

He was a proud 73-year member of the Millard Brown American Legion Post #156, longtime member of the China-Burma-India-Veterans Association, Montpelier Volunteer Fire Department, Knights of Pythia’s (K.O.P Lodge), Montpelier Senior Citizens and longtime Boy Scout leader, and was a player agent for the Little League. Sparky was a member of the Montpelier First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and flea markets, and was an avid wildlife camera man.

Loving survivors include: three sons, Larry F. (wife: Sandra) Garrison, Grand Blanc, Michigan, Jim L. (wife: Cathy) Garrison, Montpelier, Indiana, and Tim E. Garrison, Montpelier, Indiana; three daughters, Beverly J. (husband: Dan) Furniss, Hartford City, Indiana; Cathy H. (husband: Dennis) Decker, Hartford City, Indiana, and Barbara E. (husband: Dave) Reidy, Fort Wayne, Indiana; sisters Jeany (husband: John) Roark, Whitestown, Indiana, and Judy (husband: John) Peck, Spring, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father William Allen Garrison; mother Goldie (Lamley) Garrison; wife Mildred E. Garrison; son Fredrick Allen Garrison; brothers Bill, Joe, Bob and George Garrison; and sisters Betty Kiser, Mary Jane Cutwright, Donna Bennett, Dorthy Sandino and Anna Ward.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier, on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, from 2 to 8 p.m.

A service to celebrate Sparky’s life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018; viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Martin Ingram and Ryan Ingram will be officiating, and burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Montpelier. Military graveside rites will be performed by the U.S. Army and Millard Brown American Legion Post #156.
